Buhari’s spokesperson lauds Tinubu for renaming university after former president

The spokesperson of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for renaming the University of Maiduguri after Buhari.

Buhari died in a hospital in London after battling a prolonged illness. He was thereafter buried on Tuesday with dignitaries in attendance, paying their final respect to him.

Two days after his burial, Tinubu announced that the University of Maiduguri has been named after him in a bid to immortalise the former President.

Shehu, in a tweet posted on Thursday lauded Tinubu for this move.

“After a state burial like no other, the renaming of the University of Maiduguri after the late President Muhammadu Buhari is an honour well deserved.
Heartening to see this happening in our lifetime in Nigeria. My personal view,” Shehu wrote on X.
