A man, David Abraham Enefiok, aged 32, has had his right hand shattered, after he put himself in harm’s way to save passengers of a boat in Rivers State.
The incident happened at Abonnema Wharf in Port Harcourt, last weekend, during final the funeral rites of King Theophilus Princewill, the Amachree XI Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom.
Following misdirected firing of a ceremonial cannon at a boat, Enefiok was said to have attempted to save the passengers from a direct hit.
The son of the monarch, Tonye Princewill, who was worried by the incident, excused himself from the burial activities to see Enefiok at a hospital.
Speaking during his visit to Creek Hospital, Off William Jumbo Old GRA, Port Harcourt, Princewill described the victim as a hero, who averted what could have led to a more terrible incident.
He assured that he; a former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo; and the health sub-committee would foot the medical bill, promising that Enefiok would not be abandoned.
