Centre empowers 21 visually impaired persons


No fewer than 21 visually impaired persons recently graduated from Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (Vocational Training Centre), after two years of comprehensive academic and vocational training in Lagos.

Chairman, Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind, Mrs. Arit Tunde-lmoyo, speaking at the graduation ceremony with a theme, “Unveiling abilities, unlocking potential” in Oshodi Lagos,advised the graduands, to step into another chapter of their lives with lessons of resilient, creativity and unrelenting hope.

She told them that the road ahead might have some challenges, but “they have possessed the strength and skills to overcome them.” She appreciated them for their hard-work and perseverance and determination during the training.

“As Ambassador of this school, your success will serve as an inspiration to others walking in the same paths. Tunde-lmoyo appealed to all stakeholders to support the school’s projects. She said: “It is an opportunity to reflect, refocus and rededicate ourselves to our mission.”

Next year, we shall be celebrating a major milestone of 70th anniversary of FNSB’s enduring impact of empowering the visually impaired through training, advocacy, breaking barriers, creating opportunities for independent and success.

The Best Graduating Student, Mary Olalowo, said: ”l learnt to rediscover myself and be independent after being blind for six years.” She appreciated the school and teachers for all trainings acquired. She recalled that during the training, she was focused, determine and relentless.

Ernest Omoniyi said “Vocational Training Center has given me, confidence, more opportunity and how to used my remaining sense organs and mobility tools. He urged any persons with disability faced with suicide intentions should take it out of their minds, because they have a lot to offer the society. “ Mr Frank Ezeh, a graduating student, appreciated the school and promised to practice all the vocational skills in ICT and various form of crafts (tie and dye, beadmaking, nylon-rope and soap making).

Mrs Ayopeju Njideaka, Chairman VTC board of Governors pointed that through innovative,training, mentorship and a nurturing environment, we have witnessed our graduants redefine what it means to overcome barriers and shatter stereotypes.She advised them to be ready to contribute meaningfully to their communties and industries. Spreading the message that blindness is not a limitation but a unique perspective on the world that enriches all of us. Mr. Joseph Oladokun, acting principal VTC asked them to make use of all the skills acquired from school and imbibe the”We can do it spirit “because there is ability in disability.
