The New Comptroller-General of Kogi State Vigilante Service, Cdr. AbdulRahman Mariam Adinoyi (rtd) has called for inter-agency collaboration in the fight against criminal elements to bring crime wave to the barest minimum in the state.
In a statement by Saka Salihu, Head of Department, ICT and Media Unit, Office of the Comptroller-General, the new CG appealed during a tour of the commands, sensitisation and verification across all the 21 council areas of the state.
According to him, the initiative, launched to boost community engagement and optimise local security operations, has been a significant focus of the new leadership.
He noted that the sensitisation phase involved a series of public engagements aimed at raising awareness about the service’s role and responsibilities.
During the visit, Adinoyi held meetings with traditional rulers, conventional security agencies, community leaders, resident associations and the public, providing insights into how his organisation operates, and encouraging greater community involvement in local security efforts.
In addition, the verification component focused on auditing the current state of vigilante units, including assessing the training, equipment, and operational readiness of personnel.
The CG said: “The goal was to identify areas for improvement, enhance the awareness of security protocols among personnel, and rigorously verify their credentials and security clearances.
“This initiative aims to address potential vulnerabilities and reinforce trust in the management of critical operations.”
Adinoyi commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for focusing on welfare and recognising the pivotal roles vigilantes play in maintaining the security equilibrium in the state.
