Managing Director of Mubdhab Homes Limited, Dr Abubakar Salami, has advised parents of children, who have abused drugs not to give up on them, as they can still be rehabilitated and become successful.
According to him, only God can decide who is useless, adding that once someone with drug addiction makes a personal decision to stop, he or she can change the narrative and become useful in society.
Salami told journalists in Abuja that he was involved in substance abuse for about 12 years before he decided to quit.
He added that he later became diligent in the property business and could share his success story for others to learn from.
Salami said: “Do not give up on your children suffering from substance abuse. Do not lose hope. It is, like we say, an illness, right? You would continue to find help and cure. Then another piece of advice I have for parents is to make their house a shield. Just imagine, you come to the house and you are beating your wife all the time and your child does not like that sight. Your child goes to stay in the streets and he gets hooked.”
“You are a father in absentia; you are not always around. Your child finds solace in the streets. It is mostly from the streets, right? Now, if you build a proper home of love, protection, shield around your children, that love and guidance will shield them.”
