Chinese consulate supports schools, families in Lagos

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos in collaboration with the Chinese community, embarked on substantial charity support in celebration of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese National Day, and Nigeria’s Independence Day Celebration.

‎In a cross-cultural display, the community awarded ₦200,000 each to ten private schools across the State, in educational support.

‎A posthumous recognition was also given for Great Grandmaster Eyisi Umaru, who was honored for his outstanding contributions and legacy as Nigeria’s foremost Grandmaster and teacher of Wushu Kung-Fu. His family received a ₦2 million cheque in recognition of his pivotal role in bridging Chinese martial arts culture with Nigerian society. His decades-long dedication to teaching traditional Chinese martial arts helped foster cultural understanding between the two nations.

‎Consulate General of China in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing’s charity efforts extended to direct humanitarian support through the “Together Fight Against Hunger” project, which provided ₦400,000 worth of food items to ten families in need.

‎Explaining the significance of these charitable endeavors during the celebration, she said, “Both ‘Renewed Hope, Rebirth from the Light’ and ‘Together Fight Against Hunger’ have significantly contributed to enhancing people-to-people friendship between China and Nigeria. Through these actions, we have exemplified the good image of the Chinese people and have become ‘ambassadors’ of China-Nigeria friendship.

‎”This project builds upon the success of our previous initiative, “Renewed Hope, Rebirth from the Light,” which focused on providing cataract treatment to Nigerians, and has successfully helped over 300 patients in regaining their sight, this is part of our commitment to continuing support for Nigerians and building the friendship bridge between China and Nigeria.”

‎Also, Chairman of the China Industrial and Commercial Enterprise Association, Dr. Eric Ni, highlighted the vital role of the Chinese business community in fostering cross-cultural understanding between the two nations.

‎Ni said, “As we celebrate China’s National Day, we honor our rich heritage, our homeland’s remarkable progress, and the enduring spirit that connects Chinese people worldwide. Simultaneously, we join our Nigerian friends in commemorating their Independence Day, celebrating the vibrant nation that has welcomed us with open arms and given us the opportunity to build bridges between our cultures.

‎”This unique convergence represents the beautiful harmony between China and Nigeria, two nations with rich histories, bright futures, and growing friendship,
‎as we live in Nigeria, we serve as living bridges, fostering understanding, cooperation, and mutual respect.”
