The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on September 29 administer the oath of office on 57 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) as part of the programmes to mark the beginning of the 2025/2026 legal year of the Supreme Court.
The Director of Information and Public Relations at the Supreme Court, Dr. Festus Akande, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abuja.
He explained that the ceremony would be held during the special court session scheduled to open the new legal year.
“In line with our age-long tradition, during the special court session, the Chief Justice of Nigeria will deliver a state-of-the-Judiciary address, with a view to highlighting the performance of the Supreme Court in particular, and the Nigerian Judiciary in general, in the 2024/2025 legal year,” Akande stated.
He added that other prominent voices in the justice sector are expected to make presentations.
“In the same vein, other leading stakeholders in the Justice Sector will present speeches bordering on the state of the sector. These include: Hon. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), amongst others,” he said.
The Supreme Court had embarked on its annual vacation on July 21 after concluding what Akande described as “a remarkably successful 2024/2025 legal year.”
According to the statement, the swearing-in of the SANs and the address by the CJN will commence at 10 a.m. on September 29 at the Supreme Court, Abuja.
