Journalists, writers, researchers and other communication scholars will today celebrate and pay tribute to veteran journalist and former lecturer, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos. Prof. Idowu Sobowale, who clocks 81.
In an interview with The Guardian, professor of Mass Communication, School of Communication, Lagos State University (LASU), Lai Oso, said: “He has remained a very good leader to many of us. What we learnt from him is his humility and ability to mentor people. He is someone you can rely and depend on. We wish him more fruitful years in good health. We’ll continue to draw from his wealth of experience and scholarship.”
Also, President, UNILAG Mass Communication Alumni Association (UMCAA), Vincent Oyo, said: “We have all benefited from his wealth of experience. He navigated academics, public sector, private sector and has continued as Chairman of Board of Governors of (UMCAA).”
Similarly, former Editor, The Guardian on Sunday, Fred Ohwahwa, said he was a diligent man.
According to him, “he would leave office and come in the evening to lecture us. He taught us precision journalism. His class was always full. He made us to be rigorous in thinking. He taught us the value of rational thinking and the imperative of applying elementary rules of empiricism in social discourse.”
