The people of Nanka community in Orumba North Local Council of Anambra State has commended Governor Willie Obiano and the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Hosea Karma, for dislodging a notorious criminal gang terrrorising the area.

Giving kudos to the governor and the police in a statement made available to The Guardian, on behalf of the community, the Chairman of Amakor Njikoka Development Union, Mr. Emmanuel Obiekunie, noted that the apprehension, arrest and parading of members of the gang at the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) headquarters in Awka, have given the people a sense of relief.

Obiekunie recalled that prior to the dismantling of the bunch of hooligans, Nanka and neighbouring communities could not sleep with both eyes closed.

The community leader also praised the national leadership of Nanka Patriotic Union (NPU) for the prominent roles it played in the current clean-up operation, stressing that it was not yet total uhuru as according to him, the area was yet to be cleared of all criminal elements and their sponsors.

Obiekunie, therefore, urged the people to join hands with the relevant authorities to rid the community of anti-social characters, even as he expressed the fear that unless such synergy was adopted, the gains of the recent Police operation could be lost “particularly, if some escaped members of the gang were not apprehended and brought to justice.”
