CSO storms INEC, demands sack of ADP party chair

CSO protest, demands sack of Action Democratic Party (ADP) chairman Yabagi Yusuf Sani

A pro-democracy group, Guardian of Democracy & Development Initiative, (GoDDI), stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) demanding the sack of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) National Chairman, Engr, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, over alleged death certificates and court affidavits.

In a protest letter addressed to the Chairman of INEC, Mahmud Yakubu, Guardian of Democracy and Development Initiative, GoDDI, made a demand for the party Chair to be sanctioned without any further delay.

Addressing journalists at the protests in Abuja, GoDDI Director of Strategy, Research and Documentation, Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta, urged INEC to sanction the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, ADP Yagbagi Yusuf Sani.

It would also recall that the group had earlier called on the party hierarchy to suspend the National Chairman immediately.

This followed an earlier report where the House of Representatives candidate for Nasarawa Constituency, Kano State, in the 2023 general election, Musa Mohammad Ali, demanded the withdrawal of a letter that was allegedly forwarded to INEC, which he alleged was attached to a forged death certificate in his name.

According to him, Sani and the National Secretary of the party, Victor Fingesi had, prior to the general elections, sent the letter to INEC, notifying the Commission of his replacement, claiming he was dead.

The GoDDI asked the commission to exercise its powers as enshrined in the electoral act, to sanction him.

Ude-Umanta said: “It is a crime that contravenes both religious, secular and moral laws. It is roundly reprehensible and the perpetrators must not be associated with civilized people and INEC, having criminally misled it and made INEC to effect a fraudulent and illegal replacement of candidate(s).”

“The task before you an INEC is to dissociate yourself from perpetrators from the businesses of INEC, ensuring that they are prosecuted and withdrawing all engagements with their Political Party till it is sanitized”

The ADP National Chairman, Sani, had earlier said: “Is ‘the allegation’ against me as a person or as the Chairman of ADP? They’re two different things.”

When he was told that he had been accused of forging the death certificate of some candidates and declaring them dead, he added, “I didn’t do that as a person. It was the party that did that.”

Speaking further, he said, “It’s false. What they’re saying it’s false.”
