Beacon of Safety Awards 2023, indeed, was the first of its kind in the country and it ushered in champions from compliant schools, which jostled and worked hard to win the recognition of Lagos State government in implementing revised and constant safety and security of children, who have been left in trust by parents and guardians with various schools in Lagos State.

Tuesday, September 26, was a day that will go down in the annals of Lagos education history as a melting of not just topnotch schools and some of their students in lurid presentations and performances, but the successful partnership of schools with the various security agencies in the country, with the latter resolving to collaborate more than ever before with schools to guarantee safety of pupils.

From a well-organised and inspiring Conference in the day to the awards proper and a wonderful dinner to clinch the day’s auspicious programme of activities, Dowen College clinched the highest award category not just for the institution, but also academic and non-academic staff who have distinguished themselves in maintaining and sustaining safety and security standards among students and staff of the school.

Highlight of the awards was the call up of the youngest recipient, Chibuikem Nwofor, an SS3 student and Head boy of Dowen College, to the podium as a Champion of Safety in school.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Mobolaji Ogunlende, could not hide his excitement that such youngster was actively engaged in safety of fellow students and staff in school.

The proud recipients of the BOS 2023 Champions awards couldn’t agree more with well wishers that the night was a festival and harvest of awards, especially for the College.

Needless to say, this recognition brought out in Dowen College Lagos the strong resolve to put in more effort towards assuring safety and security of the students put in its care at all times.
