The two Nigerians arrested by Indian authorities for overstaying and engaging in drug-related activities in Tolichowki, a suburb of Hyderabad, are set to be deported back to Nigeria in the coming days.
Aful Clement, 29, and Lazarus Favour, 19, were arrested by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing on Wednesday. Both had been moved to Hyderabad from Bengaluru and were acting suspiciously in the Tolichowki police station limits.
Metro India reported that Clement lived in Delhi without any legal employment and has overstayed his visa, which expired in 2019, despite being jailed for six months in 2022 over a cheating case by Chandigarh police.
Another Nigerian, Lazarus, entered India on a student visa for studies in science and technology, but started dealing with drug offenders.
“While no drugs were recovered during their apprehension, authorities suspect they were involved in drug peddling.
“Their activities were deemed a threat to national security, prompting H-NEW to coordinate with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office to initiate their deportation,” Metro India said
