The Department of State Services (DSS) has released six of the protesters arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Kaduna State. The protests, which were held between August 1 and 10, were in response to the economic hardship experienced by citizens in the country.

It was further gathered that three others are being prosecuted for established prima facie cases. According to a source, the new Director General of the secret police is using this development to reiterate citizen’s right to peaceful protest as enshrined in the constitution and regard for the rule of law.

The source also hinted that the DG is resolute on upholding the mandate of the service of decisively investigating and bringing to justice those who exploit such rights to perpetrate crime.

According to human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, a total of 2,111 protesters were arrested by security agents during the protests.
