Ebonyi commissioner offers scholarships to students

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and Commutation Technologies (ICT), Uzor Tochukwu, has offered scholarship to the less privileged from his community.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and Commutation Technologies (ICT), Uzor Tochukwu, has offered scholarship to the less privileged from his community.

Briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the commissioner stated he also enrolled elderly men, pregnant women, and children into the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme, adding that the gesture was geared towards improving their living standards. According to Uzor, the event took place at his community, Okposi Okwu in Ohaozara Local Council.

He stated that he sees Christmas and new year as a season to celebrate the birth of Christ and a time to show love and share with one another, especially the less privileged. He said he has enjoyed unimaginable support from the four wards of Okposi, saying the gesture was also geared towards getting enormous support for his principal, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru; the Minister of Works, David Umahi; the Divine Mandate team, and other APC leaders in the state.

Uzor further explained that 50 persons from the four wards of Okposi, including elderly men, pregnant women and children were enrolled into the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme to enable them have free medical treatment for one year in any health centre closer to them.

He further stated that 10 indigent students in tertiary institutions were offered scholarship. In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of Ohaozara Local Council, Consider Chinonso Aja; the SSA to the President on Community Engagement (South East), Chioma Nweze, among other dignitaries, applauded the efforts of the commissioner to alleviate the plight of the less-privileged in the state.
