Edo improving learning outcomes to meet global standard – Edo SUBEB

Executive Chairman of Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo SUBEB), Mrs. Ozavize Salami, on Thursday, tasked stakeholders on commitment in improving learning outcomes across the 18 Local Government Councils of the state under the EdoBEST programme to meet global standards.

She added that the state government has prioritised education infrastructure at the primary level and at the Junior Secondary Schools level under the umbrella of its EdoBEST reforms.

Salami, who spoke during the EdoBEST Stakeholder Engagement Session which had in attendance, Principals, headteachers, Education Secretaries among others said the meeting is aimed at briefing school leaders on the data on attendance and lesson completion rate and intimate them on the implication on learning outcomes among students and school Key Performance Indicators.

According to her, “The Board aims to improve Key Performance Indicators, improve learning outcomes and intimate school leaders on the determined mode of retention and promotion for the new session.”

She added that in sustaining the EdoBEST programme, Edo SUBEB has supported teachers with teachers professional development opportunities, online certification courses and in-service training for teachers, Pedagogy coordinators.

While noting that in the past five years, attention has been paid to key basic education sector performance indicators with a focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning in Edo classrooms, Salami said, “The schools are our result areas, so it is important that our schools are headed by competent people who are driven to improve learning outcomes.

“Delivering and sustaining basic education is very technical. There is a need to strengthen the role of the School Based Management Committee members to drive the sustainability of the programme.

“Participants were selected because they are school leaders and major stakeholders. The aim of the engagement is to brief the leaders on the data on attendance and lesson completion rate and intimate them on the implication of not meeting Key Performance Indicators.”
