Egbetokun hails Tinubu, N’Assembly over police reform bills

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for their commitment to transforming policing in the country through the passage and assent of the Police Institutes Establishment Bill and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

In a statement yesterday by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP described the development as a landmark moment in Nigeria’s quest for modern and professional policing. He said the new laws mark a historic stride towards enhancing professionalism, sustainable funding, and improved welfare for police personnel nationwide.  He said: “The Nigeria Police Force has recorded yet another significant milestone in its reform and modernisation efforts.

“These legislations provide a solid legal foundation for building a modern, accountable, and well-equipped police institution that meets the security needs of a dynamic society.”

The Act, he explained, consolidates and modernises all police training and research institutions across the federation, expanding their academic capacity, and aligning their curricula with global standards in law enforcement, investigation, technology, and community policing.

“With this Act, the force can now coordinate professional training more effectively and prepare officers for the complexities of modern-day policing,” he added.

Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the new legal framework would strengthen ongoing reforms, elevate training standards, and nurture a new generation of disciplined, world-class officers.
