Ekiti bans use of laterite for roads construction
Ekiti State Government has directed contractors handling road construction or rehabilitation across the state to keep to stone-based policy and stop the use of laterite.
This is just as it orders the contractors to ensure speedy completion of all projects in line with scheduled dates as attached to their letters of award. The state’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Taiwo Olatunbosun, gave the charge, at the weekend, when he led top government officials on a tour of ongoing projects in the state embarked on by the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration and the ones inherited from the previous administrations.
He said that the current administration planned to institute long-lasting projects that would stand the test of time and also survive decades, and therefore would not accept any job done or delivered haphazardly.
He also said that the administration would not relent in giving priority attention to social amenities and facilities, such as roads, hospitals, electricity, water provision and a safe school environment, to make life meaningful to people across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Adebimpe Aderiye, who corroborated her counterpart, said the administration was not focusing only on infrastructure, but also on human capital development and empowerment.
According to her, over 2,000 indigent students across the 16 local councils of the state had benefitted from the state government’s conditional money transfer to assist them in their education.
