EKITI State Government yesterday disclosed that over N12 billion is expended yearly on an average of 176,000 pupils in 863 public primary schools
in the state.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Senator Bode Ola made this known in Ado Ekiti while monitoring resumption of students for a new session in public schools.

The SUBEB boss explained that the bulk of the amount is spent on teachers’ emoluments, provision of school buildings and infrastructure, procurement of textbooks, renovation of dilapidated structures and construction of perimeter fencing of schools as well as training of teachers.

He added that available statistics indicate that about N70,000 is spent on the education of each public primary school pupil annually.
