Two serving House of Representatives members representing Enugu North/South and Isiuzo/Enugu East federal constituencies in Enugu State, Offor Chukwuegbo and Cornelius Nnaji, have won tickets of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest in the general elections.

But the state and House of Representatives primary elections, peacefully held throughout the state on Sunday, threw up some surprises, as some serving lawmakers in the state lost their return tickets.

Notable among them is the Reps Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu, representing Oji River/Awgu/Aninri. Anayo Onwuegbu won the party’s ticket. Okechukwu condemned and rejected the process. He sought the ticket of the party to return to the House of Reps for the fourth time.

Also, in Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Pat Asadu lost to a former chairman of the PDP, Vitta Abba. Asadu’s loss came amidst opposition to his fifth term bid, especially from the people of Nsukka Local Council.

However, serving members, Cornelius Nnaji, Enugu-East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency and Offor Chukwuegbo, Enugu-North/Enugu-South Federal Constituency, won their return tickets. Also Martin Oke, Igbo-Etiti/Uzo- Uwani and Simeon Atigwe, Igbo-Eze North/Udenu also won their return tickets.

It was a different scenario in Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, where a serving lawmaker, Dennis Amadi also lost his return ticket. It was the Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dr. Festus Uzor, who picked the ticket. The state Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecelia Ezeilo, also, contested for the position and lost.
