Ex-Guardian, Okeke, others make SAN list
Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 87 legal practitioners into the Inner Bar as Senior Advocates of Nigeria. Among those awarded the honour were ex-Guardian law report editor, Christopher Okeke; an Abuja human rights activist, Tarkaa Aondo; and Theodore Ezeobi, Monday Onyekachi Ubani, among others.
The committee, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, awarded 86 senior advocates and one academic the honour at its 164th plenary session held, yesterday.
The rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession, who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.
A statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria/Secretary of the LPPC, Harjo Bello, said five different petitions written against some of the applicants were considered and dismissed.
The swearing-in of the successful 87 applicants is scheduled for Monday September 30.
