Experts canvass vocational education for human capital development

Industry stakeholders have insisted that for Nigeria to reach self-reliance in the area of economic development and improve human capacity, policy makers must direct the course of socio economic growth and development toward technology and vocational education. Speaking at this year’s Quramo conference in Lagos, stakeholders unanimously agreed that the imperativeness of vocational education couldn’t be over emphasized.

According to Haresh Aswani, Chairman Tolaram Group, he noted that private sector also has a vital role to play in growing the skills of its people; because vocational education is one of the secrets that revolutionized the Indian economy. The Consul General of the Consulate –General of Germany in Lagos, Ingo Herbert, gave a model that changed the European economy, which Nigeria can imitate. Such model, according to him, include: Dual vocational training, research cooperation between firms and research institute, cooperation instead of conflict and Germanys policy on small and medium employees (SME).
