FCT Police rescue trapped victim in Abuja building collapse

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of a 27-year-old man trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in the Lifecamp area of Abuja.

According to the spokesperson of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, a distress call was received around 6:15 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2025, prompting the immediate activation of an emergency response.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Lifecamp Division promptly mobilized personnel to the scene and secured the area to enable a coordinated rescue operation.

Adeh explained that the rescue was made possible through the joint efforts of multiple agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Development Control Department, and construction companies Zeberced and Julius Berger.

“Multi-agency patrol and enforcement teams were also deployed to strengthen the rescue efforts,” she noted.

After nearly 10 hours of intensive search and recovery efforts, the victim—identified as Aliyu Salisu, a citizen of the Niger Republic—was rescued from the debris at about 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.

He was immediately transported to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu for medical treatment and is currently responding well, according to the police.
