FESTAC Africa Festival 2024 begins in Kenya
Kisumu county in Kenya was yesterday turned into a vibrant hub of culture and celebration as it hosted the much anticipated FESTAC Festival 2024.
The event, which began on August 26, will run until September 1, 2024. The opening ceremony of the weeklong event took place at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium and was attended by several dignitaries, including ex-President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo; former Kenya Prime Minister, Raila Odinga; and Governor of Kisumu County, Anyang Nyong’o, among others.
The lakeside city came alive with an explosion of colours, traditions, and rhythms across the African continent, drawing attention of residents and guests
The event kicked off with performances by cultural troupes, singers and dancers from African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. Some of the entertainers that thrilled guests at the event include the Kenya-based band Les Wanyika, Burundi Dancers from Burundi, and Benny Willis Wallace from Nigeria.
The festival created Africa’s rich cultural heritage and had a myriad of performances, music, and dances.
