FG clears backlog of promotions in paramilitary agencies

The Federal Government has announced that it has cleared the backlog of promotions for officers across the four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this at the 2025 Ministerial Retreat held yesterday in Suleja, Niger State, reiterating the administration’s commitment to enhancing institutional performance, capacity building, and officer welfare.

A statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Abraham Paul, quoted the minister as saying that more than 50,000 officers had been promoted within two years.

“We have successfully cleared the long-standing backlog of promotions, with over 50,000 officers promoted within two years,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He also highlighted the development of training manuals and the establishment of a world-class Fire Academy designed to rival leading global institutions such as the Arizona Fire Academy.

“Our officers’ progression will now be determined by their capacity and performance. Collaboration with private stakeholders is key to enhancing service delivery and modernizing firefighting operations in Nigeria,” he added.

The minister stressed the importance of mental health in the workplace, assuring officers that the ministry would continue to provide support to boost their overall well-being.
