There is renewed hope for commuters and residents along the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway as the Federal Government has re-awarded the long-delayed reconstruction of the critical highway to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited.
The development was confirmed by Hon. Akin Alabi, Member of the House of Representatives representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
Alabi disclosed that the new contract followed the termination of the previous agreement with Kopek Construction Company due to what he described as unsatisfactory progress on the project.
“The Federal Government has now handed the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa Expressway to CBC Global, a reputable multinational construction firm with a strong track record of delivering major infrastructure projects in Nigeria and across Africa,” Alabi announced.
According to the lawmaker, the Federal Government views the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesa corridor as a single, unified project, rather than one divided by state or constituency boundaries. However, he acknowledged that the Iwo Road to Asejire section—within his constituency—remains a particular source of hardship for residents and motorists.
Alabi further revealed that CBC Global will deploy concrete pavement technology, a modern construction technique expected to make the new road last up to 50 years without major rehabilitation.
“Work is expected to commence from the Osun State end of the expressway. However, I am in active discussions with the contractor to carry out palliative works on the most deteriorated sections within Egbeda and Ona Ara, to provide immediate relief to road users. This will begin as soon as possible,” the lawmaker said.
The federal lawmaker expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda policy for prioritising the project and demonstrating renewed commitment to improving Nigeria’s federal infrastructure network.
He assured his constituents that he would continue to monitor the project closely and provide regular updates as work progresses.
“I sincerely thank everyone for their patience and understanding throughout this process. Please be assured of my highest regards and continued dedication to ensuring that Egbeda and Ona Ara benefit fully from the Federal Government’s infrastructure renewal drive,” Alabi added.
