The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organisation (GAFAMORG) has emphasised the importance of delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians by the government.
GAFAMORG, which gave the charge during a media briefing to announce the 14th memorial programme of the Late Gani Fawehinmi with the theme, “State of the Nation:14 years after Gani,” lamented that governance in Nigeria is for the rich, hence, the need for good governance for Nigerians to enjoy dividends of democracy, as capitalism breeds corruption.
The organisation said governance had continued to be for the interest of politicians as opposed to being for the people.
Chairman, Governing Council of GAFAMORG, Babatunde Agunbiade, said the inability of the current politicians in power to satisfy economic interests of citizens had unjustly driven the government to unleash political oppression, suppression and repression on the masses.
Agunbiade said the people were mere collection of statistics as leaders isolate themselves from them once elected.
He said the solution to the country’s political and socio-economic problems is not in the continuous increase in petroleum pump prices, but rather the establishment of good governance, adding that the recent increase in petroleum products must be resisted by legal and constitutional means to save Nigerians from continuous mis-governance.
