Govs pay condolence visits to Akeredolu’s home in Ibadan
Aiyedatiwa tasked on deputy, unity, progress, welfare
Jericho Estate, Ibadan Oyo State residence of the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, received August visitors, including Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum/ Kwara helmsman, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, his Oyo counterpart, Seyi Makinde, yesterday, during a condolence visit to family of the deceased.
Addressing the press, Governor Abdulrahman lauded Akeredolu for his commitment and impact on humanity.
He also described the passing as a loss to the nation, stating that Akereodolu rose to the peak of his career in law and politics.
In his brief remarks, Makinde said he had lost a friend, brother and someone they had been in the trenches together.
Describing the late governor as a courageous individual who did not mince words but someone who spoke truth to power, he added that the death was a big loss for him and the Southwest region as a whole.
Equally, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, during his condolence visit, promised that Akeredolu’s sterling qualities will be emulated
Addressing journalists, Aiyedatiwa said the late governor had been a courageous person with so many legacies during the six to seven years he held sway.
He added that the departed was an exemplary leader that believed in fairness and equity.
Aiyedatiwa said: “We are here as the government of Ondo State, of which I am the leader, to pay a condolence visit to the family of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu. He had always been our leader, a courageous one for that matter. One who has governed Ondo State in the last six or seven years with great courage and so many legacies he left behind. He is an exemplary leader. A leader that believed in fairness and equity.”
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, quoted him to have said it was a rare privilege to have served under the tutelage of his late boss.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Conscious Movement has urged Aiyedatiwa to urgently nominate a deputy governor within the constitutionally stipulated time frame.
It stressed the need for the governor to allow the rule of law to reign supreme to foster an era of unity, progress and enhanced welfare of the people.
Chairman of the group, Shalom Olaseni, in a statement yesterday, also condoled with the family of the late governor, the state government and the people.
He said Akeredolu’s indomitable spirit, courage and tenacity in the face of trying times had left an indelible mark on the people’s hearts.
“In the wake of this sombre moment, we extend our warmest congratulations to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who now shoulders the weight of leadership. In this transitional period, we implore Governor Aiyedatiwa to ascend with courage, fairness and a resolute commitment to the principles of good governance,” the organisation charged.
