Governors of Ogun, Lagos, Oyo, Osun and Plateau States, yesterday, saluted fallen heroes for their sacrifices in the difficult task of keeping Nigeria as one.
The governors, at various commemorations of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, said their ultimate sacrifices would forever linger, calling on all Nigerians to rally behind national unity.

In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun, implored Nigerians to collaborate with government at all levels to maintain the nation’s integrity. Abiodun noted that the yearly celebration serves as a solemn occasion to honour those who sacrificed their lives to protect the country from both external and internal threats, expressing his firm belief in the potential for Nigeria to thrive once again.

He urged Nigerians to make it a priority to remember and celebrate the fallen heroes in their daily lives. On his part, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, pledged the state’s continued support for families of the fallen heroes.

Represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the governor said: “Every year, we put in the honour of fallen heroes. We all know they sacrificed their lives, so it’s an honour for them, and we pray for them. And we also use this time to remember them. This is the culmination of when Mr President launched this movement.”

SIMILARLY, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State restated his administration’s support for the Armed Forces. He also beseeched residents to continually support the military in securing the country.   Adeleke assured that his government would assist the Armed Forces in performing their duties of protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

In Oyo, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, yesterday, lauded the security agencies in the state for maintaining the peace and keeping the state safe for economic activities to thrive.
 
Speaking at the grand finale of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, the governor promised that his administration would continue to remember and support the maimed soldiers, widows, orphans and other dependants of the fallen heroes for paying the price to keep the country safe and secure.

Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Oyo State Command, Deputy Commandant General Julius Ogunkojo, appreciated the governor for his support to the legionnaires across the 33 local councils of the state.

Also yesterday, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang urged Nigerians to remember the fallen heroes for their immense contributions to the unity and progress of the nation.

He noted that the deceased military personnel paid the supreme price to keep Nigeria indivisible. Expressing confidence that Nigerians would survive after the parade in Jos, Mutfwang said his administration would support the armed forces to enable officers to effectively fulfill their constitutional responsibilities in the midst of prevailing security and financial challenges.
