Gunmen kill monarch, traditional ‘Prime Minister’ In Imo

Again, gunmen, in their numbers, yesterday, invaded Izombe community in Oguta Local Council of Imo State. They killed the monarch of Orsu Obodo community, Eze Victor Ijioma, while he was inside his car.
The hoodlums also set his body ablaze in his car, at the scene in Umuamaka Junction, Izombe. A source said the monarch had visited the area before he was accosted by his assassins.
The same day, the traditional prime minister of Mgbele community, Oguta local council (name yet- to -be disclosed), was also killed by his assailants in his community.
The state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed both incidences. He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, had directed manhunt for the killers.
Okoye disclosed that the commissioner also directed increased presence of security operatives in the area to ensure firm security, assuring the residents of their safety, as “they go about their businesses.”
A source in the community said: “It was horrible. The gunmen stormed the area in a commando style, and shot the traditional ruler inside his car. They later set the car and all the things, including the monarch’s body ablaze.
Meanwhile, The Guardian learnt that some residents of the communities had deserted for fear of arrest and being victims of until “they are sure of adequate security.”
Bandits, recently, killed a monarch from a neighbouring community, while he was presiding over a meeting.
Other monarchs from other communities in the state, were also reportedly abducted and killed by unknown gunmen, about a year ago.
