No fewer than 5,000 market men and women at Ipaja, Lagos State, received free healthcare services, including eye screenings, blood pressure checks, massages, eye glasses and drugs as part of Boska’s Pain-Free Day initiative.

The community-focused event, held monthly, by Dexa Medica, manufacturers of Boska pain relieving drugs, aims at improving public health, while giving back to loyal customers.

Speaking at the medical outreach reach at Ipaja market, Ayobo, the Senior Brand Ambassador of Boska Group, Oke Olawunmi, said the Boska’s Pain-Free Day initiative is designed to offer more than just eye care but also general health check up to the market men and women, who often don’t pay attention to their health as they focus solely on their businesses and making ends meet for their families.  Olawunmi stated that the initiative was also a way of appreciating customers who support the brand.

“The community is buying our products and we believe in giving back. That is why we provide medical checkups, body massages, and eyeglasses. We aim to reach about 10,000 people with this programme in this community,” Olawunmi said.

An optometrist, Dr. Dickson Ezuwe, emphasised the importance of eye screenings in detecting conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and presbyopia.  He noted that many people are unaware of these issues until they undergo professional checkups.

“We are giving out over 200 reading glasses to help those struggling with tiny prints due to aging. We also screen individuals for glaucoma and refer them to tertiary institutions. Many people benefit from free medications and treatment for eye infections,” Ezuwe explained.

Healthcare professional and Boska Brand Ambassador, Deborah Olarenwaju, highlighted the widespread health concerns discovered during screenings, particularly among market traders.

“Many have high blood pressure but never go for checkups. Through this initiative, we create awareness and encourage them to see doctors. We also provide free medications,” she stated.

One of the beneficiaries, Olayiwola Sarah, expressed gratitude to the Boska team’s dedication I’m making a tangible impact on public health, ensuring that more people have access to essential medical services.

“They are really trying. God will bless them. Other brands should do the same for the community,” she urged.
