THE United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lagos has opened a condolence book in honour of the deceased former UN Secretary General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

The former Secretary General died on February 16, 2016 at the age of 93. Boutros-Ghali, who was the sixth secretary-general and the first African secretary general of the United Nations, served a five-year term from 1992 to 1996.

The veteran diplomat was lauded by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for guiding the Organisation through the tumultuous early 1990s and for helping shape the UN’s response to post-Cold War realities, drafting a seminal report on preventive diplomacy, peacemaking and peacekeeping.

The centre invites members of the public to sign the condolence book at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) 17, Alfred Rewane Road, Ikoyi Lagos, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and between 8: a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Fridays.

The exercise ends on Friday, March 4, 2016.
