I won’t accept tenure extension, says Jega
THE Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega, said yesterday that he would reject any offer to extend his stay as the boss of the electoral body.
He stressed that he was satisfied with the opportunity given to him to conduct the nation’s most hotly contested national election.
Monitored on BBC Hausa Service from Kano, Jega disclosed that, “I praise my Lord for guiding me to conduct the election with utmost fair play. It was Him who gave me the opportunity and the courage to conduct free, fair and credible election together with other officials of the commission.“
“As a body we appreciate the way and manner other stakeholders helped in having a successful election,” he said.
When asked about the card reader mechanism during the last election, he expressed that the mechanism was an added advantage to genuine and credible election. “The card reader introduced into our election process fair play and credibility in the entire process,” he added.

We will review and take appropriate action.
