The Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), United Kingdom and District Society, Pastor Akintayo Ojo, has revealed that the organisation now has more than 550 members in its database.
Ojo, who also serves as ICAN’s Diaspora Chairman, made the disclosure while speaking on the importance of the Institute’s Annual Dinner and Dance Ceremony, which he described as a key initiative to foster unity and collaboration among members in the UK.
According to him, the social event provides an opportunity for Nigerian chartered accountants in the diaspora to strengthen professional bonds and align with the Institute’s mission and vision in a relaxed atmosphere.
“It is important to let you know that we have about 550 members on our database. In fact, we could be more,” Ojo said. “To promote peaceful co-existence among members, we created an event called the Annual Dinner and Dance, where members can socialise and network in an informal setting.”
Ojo commended members for their growing participation in ICAN UK’s programmes, describing the increase as unprecedented. He noted that since assuming office, his administration has worked to deepen engagement and ensure that members in the diaspora feel connected to the Institute’s activities.
He recalled that the branch hosted a Pre-Independence Seminar in September 2025, which drew more than 300 virtual participants — the highest number ever recorded for an ICAN UK event.
“We had a seminar in September 2025 called the Pre-Independence Seminar. Over 300 members joined virtually, which was unprecedented,” he said. “Since I assumed office, I have been able to generate more interest and participation in our programmes and activities.”
Looking ahead, Ojo said the Society’s focus for 2026 will be on stewardship and accountability, particularly in measuring the impact of investments made in entrepreneurship and professional development for members.
“Under my chairmanship, 2026 should be about taking stock of what we have achieved. We have invested a lot in entrepreneurship and development sessions, and it is time to assess the outcomes,” he stated.
He emphasised that ICAN UK remains committed to fostering professional excellence and supporting members to thrive both in the UK and globally.
The ICAN United Kingdom and District Society serves as a professional and networking platform for Nigerian chartered accountants based in the UK. It provides continuous professional development, mentorship and support to members while promoting the values of integrity, accountability and service that define the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Through regular conferences, seminars and social engagements, the Society continues to build bridges between professionals in the diaspora and the Nigerian accounting community, reinforcing ICAN’s mission to uphold global standards in the profession.
