The Acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has described as unnecessary and avoidable, the distractions that ensued during the political logjam in the state due to the ill-health of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Aiyedatiwa, in a live state broadcast 24 hours after he became the acting governor, said that the political crisis that rocked the state should be put behind.
According to the acting governor, the state must return to the path of accelerated progress that would provide dividends of democracy to its residents.
Aiyedatiwa further stated: “As a government, we must appreciate the sovereignty of the people that voted us into office, and we regret in no unmistakable terms the toll which this whole episode has inflicted on the psyche of the people and the development of the state.
“Despite all these, I come to you today to urge you all not to relent, as you have always done, in your prayers for the quick restoration of good health and strength to our leader, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu.
MEANWHILE, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kayode Ajulo, has hailed the transmission of power by Akeredolu to his deputy, Aiyedatiwa. The learned silk also applauded President Bola Tinubu for sticking to the constitution and not swayed by sentiments. Ajulo also urged the Ondo State House of Assembly to put the interest of the state above partisan interest in discharging their constitutional duties.
In an interview with The Guardian, Ajulo said: “The handover of power to the deputy is exactly what we demanded for.
“The needful has been done and I wish the governor soonest recovery as I thank everyone, including the President, for ensuring the activation of the constitutional provision despite several political caprices.
“I enjoin the State House of Assembly to answer their commission. They are the representatives of the people and that should be demonstrated at all times.”
