Jimoh Ibrahim urges FG to replace palliatives with food vouchers

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim

The Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim (APC) has called on the Federal Government to replace cash-based palliative programmes with food vouchers to curb the mismanagement of funds meant for poor Nigerians.

Ibrahim, who chairs the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, gave the advice during an interactive session with journalists at the Senate, yesterday.

He outlined the economic benefits of such a shift to include reducing food insecurity and improving Nigeria’s cash-to-GDP ratio.

According to him, the current system of distributing cash palliatives has been plagued by inefficiency and corruption.

He, therefore, suggested that issuing food vouchers directly to poor Nigerians across all 36 states and 774 local councils would ensure resources reach the intended beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, energy management and industrial automation, Schneider Electric, has reaffirmed its dedication at driving impactful change in Nigeria by unveiling sustainable innovative solutions to address food security challenges and promoting climate action.

The firm, which stated this during the yearly conference of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) that brings together engineers, policymakers, academics, and industry leaders, stressed the need for sustainable development through technology and innovation to address the country’s critical challenges.

In his remarks, Country President, Schneider Electric Nigeria, Ajibola Akindele, said that the innovative energy and automation solutions would help build resilient systems that drive food production, conserve resources, and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Also speaking, Marketing Communications Manager, Anglophone Africa, Schneider Electric, Omobolanle Omotayo, highlighted the critical role of skills development in sustaining their sustainability initiatives.
