JITO Nigeria marks Mahaveer’s anniversary with mini marathon
The Jain community under the flagship of JITO Nigeria is poised to mark the birthday anniversary of Lord Janma Kalyanak (Mahaveer) on April 4, 2023.
The Jain community, throughout the world, are termed the most pious people. They celebrate this occasion with great enthusiasm as they follow the preaching of Lord Mahaveer.
Lord Mahaveer is the 24th Tirthankar, meaning, a saviour who has succeeded in crossing over life’s stream of rebirths and has made a path for others to follow.
Chairman, JITO Nigeria, Chief Sanjay Jain, in a statement, yesterday, said this time, the Jain community has thought of something different and unique to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Mahaveer.
He said: “We are organising the AHIMSA RUN (a mini marathon to propagate the principles of Lord Mahaveer – Peace and Non- Violence) on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Palmgrove Estate, Lagos, Nigeria.
“The aim for this mini marathon is to spread awareness on peace, non-violence, love and unity for a better world.
“We all know about the difficult times the world is facing today more than ever, hence the need to appreciate and adopt the principles of AHIMSA (non- violence) – not only physical non-violence but also mental non-violence.
“This is the time when each and every person – may it be a professional, business man, child, housewife or any person from any walk of life, will come together to run for peace.
“This AHIMSA RUN, which shall propagate the principles of Lord Mahaveer viz. non-violence and peace will still have many other angles attached to it.
“The main purpose shall be to unite all the human beings on this globe by enlightening them on the importance of love, peace and non-violence, which are the greatest teachings from Lord Mahaveer.
“ So, everyone who is running this RUN is not only learning about these qualities but at the same time sending a strong message to the entire world to adopt these traits in today’s challenging atmosphere all over the world.
“This is how we can try to improve each other’s life. We are hopeful that the message will go round and encourage people to participate in this RUN to mark this historic occasion.
“We shall continue to conduct such activities in Nigeria for the times to come and engage our Nigerian brethren for such events.”
