Kaduna Electric explains 450 employees lay-off
Kaduna Electric has addressed ongoing industrial action and recent staff restructuring, seeking to dispel widespread speculation and misinformation. In a statement, the electricity distribution company (DisCo), acknowledged public concerns and explained its efforts to ensure long-term sustainability.
The management stated that letters were issued to 450 employees, contrary to labour union claims that 900 staff members were affected. The decision, described as challenging but necessary, was attributed to operational and financial difficulties that had hindered the company’s ability to meet market and operational obligations.
According to Kaduna Electric, the restructuring is part of a broader transformation initiative aimed at aligning the company with market realities, creating a more efficient workforce and bolstering its financial health.
The DisCo emphasised that the right-sizing exercise, combined with strategic capital investments, was critical to improving operations and ensuring the company’s sustainability.
“Kaduna Electric expressed regret over the prolonged power outage caused by the industrial action, which lasted over 24 hours to some of our customers across our franchise. The company remains committed to resolving labour disputes amicably and restoring normal operations as quickly as possible,” it stated
The management extended its gratitude to security agencies for safeguarding personnel and facilities during the industrial action and reiterated its dedication to providing a reliable power supply. Customers and stakeholders were assured that Kaduna Electric remained focused on overcoming current challenges and emerging stronger to serve them better.
“The company remains focused on overcoming its current challenges and emerging stronger to better serve its customers and stakeholders,” it added.
