Kano gov flags off second batch of palliatives

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

Kano State government Governor Abba Yusuf is set to distribute bags of grains and empower youth, women and People Living with Disabilities (PLWD) with cash.

Further to his government’s effort of providing succour to the people of the state to alleviate the effect of petrol subsidy removal, arrangements have been concluded for the distribution of rice and maize across the 484 wards in the 44 local councils of the state.

Yusuf made this known today during a meeting with the state and local council chairmen/secretaries of four grassroots mobilisation platforms, namely, Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC), Lafiya Jari, Kano PRO-PA and Kwankwasiyya, held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.

The governor said the second batch distribution is imperative, looking at the difficulties people go through, and called on the distribution committees at the state and local levels to be just in the exercise to achieve the goal of cushioning the current hardship of extreme hunger and abject poverty.

He disclosed plans for empowerment programmes targeting three categories of beneficiaries totalling 4,840 women, youth and PLWDs, who would be trained and provided with start-up capital.

“We will also ensure the introduction of Amana taxis and buses scheme for our teaming youth. Some tricycle riders (Yan Adaidata Sahu) will be included in this scheme to upgrade their status,” he added.

On the areas of development projects, the governor said the five-kilometre projects in the headquarters of the 44 local councils, initiated by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso in the second tenure of his administration, would be completed, as contractors had been mobilised back to sites.
