Kano governor directs new COS, aides to declare assets

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated the newly appointed political aides, including the Chief of Staff and Special Advisers, after taking the oath of allegiance.

Besides, the governor directed the Secretary to the State Government to issue the appointees with code of conduct forms to enter their assets before assuming duties.

The new appointees include Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, Chief of Staff (COS); Professor Abba Garba Gaya, Special Adviser on Agriculture; Dr. Tukur Dayyabu, Minjibir Special Adviser on General Agricultural Input; and Yusuf Ibrahim Sharada, Special Adviser on Digital Economy, among others.

Addressing the aides after the oath conducted by the Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Ibrahim Dederi, the governor reminded the aides of the constitutional requirement of the code of conduct and the legal implications against default.

Yusuf disclosed that the selection of the new CoS and 12 others was based on merit. He, however, urged them to prepare to serve with commitment, dedication and sincerity of purpose.

He tasked them to avoid envy of other political officeholders, respect seniority, and work in unison to deliver government policies and the dividends of democracy to residents.

“Your oath of alliance should speak volumes. You should bear in mind that the oath will be with you throughout your lifetime. I can assure you that if you behave well, you will not regret it, but if you deviate, God will not be happy with you.

“I was watching you closely when you were taking the oath of alliance and office, and I sympathise with you because I know it will be difficult for you. I would rather appeal to you to take your job with all honesty.

“You are special advisers to the governor. Your job is to advise the governor. We have some advisers who do not know their responsibilities. Other advisers are sitting at home after their appointment, while some are waiting for the governor’s advisers. You people should be ready to work day and night,” Yusuf said.

Responding on behalf of the new appointees, the new CoS, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, applauded the decision of the governor while pledging the readiness of the aides to deliver on their responsibilities to the best of their abilities.
