Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the mass killing of worshippers in Katsina State, describing the incident as a tragic reminder of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
With more than 50 bodies recovered so far, Obi said the attack went beyond the slaughter of innocent citizens and reflected the dangerous devaluation of human life in the country.
“Nigerian lives must now have value to us as leaders. We cannot continue to treat these incidents as ordinary statistics. Behind every number is a father, a mother, a child, lives cut short and families shattered,” he stated.
He emphasised that unless leaders address the root causes of insecurity urgently, Nigerians will continue to suffer needless losses. Obi further called for the restoration of human dignity as a sacred national priority.
While condoling with the victims’ families, the people and government of Katsina State, and all Nigerians living in fear, Obi prayed for courage to rebuild a nation where security of lives and property is guaranteed as a fundamental right.
He ended with his familiar reassurance: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
