Katsina unveils hybrid buses to drive green, modern transport system

The Katsina State Government on Thursday launched a fleet of hybrid buses in a bold move to modernize public transportation and promote environmental sustainability under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda.

The new buses, which operate on both fuel and electricity, are designed to reduce carbon emissions, cut fuel costs, and improve urban mobility across key centers, Katsina, Daura, and Funtua, with expansion plans for other parts of the state.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the Woeka Company facility in Abuja, a business partner on the project, Ambassador Oshi Bernard, commended Governor Radda for his vision and commitment to sustainable development.

He described the governor as “hardworking, industrious, focused, and dedicated,” adding that the project reflects his passion for improving the lives of citizens and empowering youths in the state.

Bernard said, “We want to specially thank Governor Dikko for giving us this great opportunity to promote a world-class project.”

In his remarks, the Project Manager of Zhong Tong Bus, Mr. Wei Yanbin, disclosed that the state government will procure 30 city buses in the first phase of the initiative.

He added that the company will construct three bus terminals and 60 bus stops along designated routes to support the operation of the new transport system.

“This project will commence this October and will be delivered within six months,” Yanbin said.

Explaining the benefits of the hybrid technology, he noted that the buses will utilize both diesel and electric energy to minimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions. Each bus, he said, has a seating capacity of between 45 and 55 passengers.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the state’s vision to build a safe, affordable, and eco-friendly transport network that meets the mobility needs of its growing population.
