The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the death of Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
According to reports, the lecturer allegedly died during an encounter with a female student, Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel (matric no: 24GE1034), at a hotel in Anyigba. The student reportedly raised an alarm after noticing he was unresponsive and, with the help of the hotel receptionist, rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Police spokesperson, William Aya, said the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the state police headquarters in Lokoja for further investigation. Miss Samuel remains in custody while detectives work to determine the exact cause of death.
“The lady reported the incident at the Anyigba police station and was later transferred to Lokoja. The CID is handling the matter,” Aya said.
Meanwhile, the university’s management has expressed sadness over the incident. In a statement signed by the Registrar, Barr. Yahaya Segun Alilu, the school described the development as “tragic and disturbing” and said it was cooperating fully with investigating authorities.
“The university expresses deep sorrow over the unfortunate passing of Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle. The circumstances surrounding his death, in the company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel, are currently under investigation,” the statement said.
