Taraba Independent Peace Committee, in collaboration with the Kukah Centre, Secretariat of the National Peace Committee, has called on the state government to intervene in the humanitarian crisis in the state.

The call, which came weekend via a communiqué, in Jalingo, after the Peace Summit with the theme, ‘In Search for Peace, Unity and Reconciliation among Communities in Taraba’, urged the government and other stakeholders to make concerted efforts to resettle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

With support from the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the group also urged the government to undertake a comprehensive boundary demarcation across the state, especially the newly created chiefdoms, districts and villages.

The communiqué, which was signed by the chairman, Prof. Dauda Suntai, and others, noted the need for security agencies to strictly adhere to their rules of engagement in crisis management.

While stressing the need for traditional rulers to be encouraged to promote community surveillance and local intelligence networking, religious leaders on their part, the group suggested, should preach and practise peace and unity always and avoid inciting their congregation against other faiths.

The two-day summit brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, heads of security agencies, registered youths and women groups, and civil society groups working for peace in the state,
