AHEAD of preparations for the inauguration of the new democratic administration under the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, plans are in top gear to elect the Senator-elect representing Kano Central, the current governor of Kano state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as the Majority Leader of the Senate, come June after their official inauguration.

Addressing the media in Kano recently, the Senator-elect representing Kano North Senatorial district, Barau I. Jibril, said the idea was brought forward by a number of some of the Senators-elect from the North West region.

Jibril, who was impressed with Kwankwaso’s political profile, urged Senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) that would make the composition of the next Red Chamber, to endorse and accept the endorsement of governor Kwankwaso for any position slated for the North West region, including the next Senate Majority Leader.

“Kwankwaso was a former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives and two-time governor of the most populous state in Nigeria. It is noteworthy that he came second in the presidential primary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), which took place in Lagos late last year,” he said.

“After he was defeated, he exhibited the spirit of sportsmanship by coming out to help the party win the presidential elections. He also needs to be recognized as somebody who delivered all seats of the national assembly from his state to the winning party. So, we feel that by virtue of all what he did and the fact he is an accomplished legislator and in order to further encourage the people of Kano State to continue to support the APC, we feel it will be good to allow him occupy any of the positions meant for the region,” Jibril added.

so, it means APC has no Zoning agenda like the PDPs where North is the President, Southwest is the Vice and East will take the Speakership. There is change indeed

The three arms of government that is the legislature, the executive and the judiciary will be headed by northerners. Is this not ridiculous in a federation?

Yeah, I agree with you. There should be a mix of religion and region. Perception is dangerous. The senate President should be a Christian from the South West, while the speaker should also be Christian from the North Central. That is my recipe.

No . Majority leader is not leading the whole senate but leading the party with highest number of senators. The president of the senate will definitely not be headed by a notherner
