Ladega leads Ikorodu’s environmental transformation drive

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Prince Adedayo Ladega, has launched a major sanitation and environmental advocacy campaign aimed at promoting public health, sustainability, and responsible waste management across the council area.

The initiative, which flagged off at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, forms part of the administration’s drive to achieve a cleaner, greener, and healthier environment.

Ladega, joined by the Vice Chairman, Babawale Alogba, led volunteers, members of the Environment Department, and top management staff in an intensive cleanup exercise targeting areas identified as refuse “black spots.”

The legislative arm of the council, headed by Hon. Wasiu Shotomiwa, also participated actively in the exercise.

The advocacy team moved through Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu Garage, Sagamu Road, the Cemetery area at Sabo, and rounded off at Sabo Market, engaging traders, residents, and community members on proper sanitation and environmental hygiene.

At Sabo Market, Ladega met with the Arewa community and market leaders, stressing that his administration maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward environmental negligence.

He warned that indiscriminate dumping of refuse would no longer be tolerated and urged residents to adopt cleaner habits in line with the council’s waste management regulations.

He explained that the campaign aligns with his SEED Agenda, Security, Education, Enhanced Healthcare, and Development, which seeks to build safer, healthier, and more empowered communities.

According to him, the exercise also advances several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including clean water and sanitation, sustainable cities, climate action, and public health.

Ladega commended the cooperation of council staff, legislators, and volunteers, urging sustained collaboration among residents to keep Ikorodu clean and safe.

“The environment is our collective responsibility,” he said. “When we keep our surroundings clean, we protect our health, our children, and the future of Ikorodu.”

The campaign, which will continue across other parts of the local government, is expected to serve as a model for community-driven environmental reform in Lagos State.
