LAGOS State House of Assembly yesterday called for an investigation into the Tuesday killing of seven operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Arepo/Ikorodu part of the State.

The House condemned the killing, even as they called on the relevant security agencies, especially the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase to unravel circumstances of the killing and earlier ones.

Meanwhile, security experts have condemned Wednesday’s killing of ten operatives of the DSS.

Retired Commissioner of Police and former spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Frank Odita urged the Federal Government to investigate and bring the culprits to book.

Odita advised the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation to return the protection of various pipelines across the country to members of the host communities.

Managing Director of Security Watch, Mr. Patrick Agbambu noted that it was wrong in the first place to give the O’dua Peoples Congress power to protect the oil pipelines.

However, Yinka Oguntimehin, Director of Media and Publicity of OPC led by Otunba Gani Adams, described the killing as “highly condemnable.”

In a different development, the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni yesterday dismissed a police Corporal who killed the wife of a tricycle operator at Isheri-Oshun area of Lagos, charging him for ‘murder.’

The corporal, who is attached to Isheri-Oshun Police Station, was carrying out a stop-and-search duty with four others when the incident occurred.

The deceased, Idongesit Ekpo, in company with her husband, who is also the tricycle rider and her four children at the time the incident, were on their way home when they ran into the police roadblock.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the corporal opened fire at the moving tricycle for refusing to part with the sum of N100 requested by the policemen.

Spokesperson of the Lagos House, Segun Olulade, said the incident was condemnable and worrisome because “vandals are gradually becoming a threat to the state.”
