Lagos govt signs MoU with CCECC to build Lekki-Epe Bridge

Lagos State Government, yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to build the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.

Lagos State Government, yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to build the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.

It said that the project was aimed at reducing traffic congestion and creating a seamless commuting experience as well as supporting economic growth.

The signing of the MoU, which was witnessed by President Bola Tinubu, was signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on behalf of the state.

Sanwo-Olu said: “Our strategic transport master-plan is not just a blueprint; it’s a commitment to improving the lives of Lagos residents.

According to him, his government targets its focus on key road networks, with the aim to reduce traffic congestion and create a seamless commuting experience, all while supporting economic growth.

“We have had discussions about awarding the contract to CCECC, and feasibility and design studies for the project have been conducted.

“We also signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across our tertiary institutions.

“These solar systems, expected to generate about 50 megawatts (MW), will provide cleaner and more affordable electricity. This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy as a key part of our economic development.”

In another development, the state government has begun a partial operation of the Red Line Rail project from Oyingbo-Agbado axis of the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, disclosed this via his X account, yesterday.

He said: “This operation is intended to evaluate the safety and efficiency of the rail system.

“Once full operations commence, we anticipate transporting over 500,000 passengers daily.

“We intend to facilitate for a safe, reliable, efficient and modern transportation system in Lagos State.”
