Global oil prices touched ten-year highs of more than $100 a barrel soon after Russia invaded Ukraine, doubling diesel prices for African countries like Nigeria. Ukraine and Russia are both major suppliers of wheat and grains to Africa and Western sanctions and disruptions are already hiking costs across the continent. (Photo by PIUS UTOMI EKPEI / AFP)

Dangote Refinery, marketers to meet over petrol lifting, pricing

Lagos State Government, yesterday, officially launched the e-call-up system to effectively manage truck movements in the Lekki-Epe corridor and alleviate congestion caused by articulated trucks.

The system is anticipated to streamline traffic flow, reduce waiting times, and enhance logistics within the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The launch of the e-call up system, which was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, yesterday, via his official X (formerly Twitter), follows the earlier postponement of the initial rollout, which was scheduled for August 1, 2024.

He said that the e-call up system would serve as a sustainable, and technology-driven solution designed to optimise truck scheduling and coordination.

The statement also noted that the e-call-up system would ease the movement of people by reducing traffic congestion and improving access to jobs and services.

MEANWHILE, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced plans to meet with the Dangote Refinery this week to discuss the direct lifting of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and explore potential price reduction.

IPMAN’s Spokesperson, Chinedu Ukadike, who disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, said that the association would soon commence direct petrol lifting from Dangote Refinery.

He said that despite the refinery’s commencement of petrol distribution, effective distribution remains a significant challenge in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
