Lagos seeks citizens’ engagement on devt, pledges good environment

Lagos State Government has called for citizens’ engagement on development, promising to ensure a conducive environment for all to thrive.General Manager of the New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Olakunle Aboyeji, gave the charge when he hosted a stakeholders’ meeting on the Epe Mixed Development Scheme and Labour City, with the aim of fostering collaboration and synergy among stakeholders.

Aboyeji said that the Epe mixed development scheme was designed to provide a functional and sustainable urban environment, with a focus on socio-economic improvement.

In his remarks, Head of Department, Town Planning Services, NTDA, and Chairman, Stakeholders Committee, Olusola Orebiyi, said that the schemes were designed to ensure proper arrangements for development.

Meanwhile, a Lagos State House of Assembly member, Femi Saheed, has said that the proposed state’s N3 trillion 2025 budget will address health and transportation challenges. Saheed spoke, yesterday, during the Citizens Accountability and Rights Forum (CARF), organised by the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights.

Hesaid that the government plans to establish a Lagos State Medical University and Sciences to address the shortage of medical personnel in the state. He noted that the state government had been engaging citizens quarterly through stakeholders’ engagement, where citizens are invited to itemise their needs in their various communities before budget preparation.

Saheed also noted the state government’s efforts to develop its rail system to address transportation challenges, citing the ongoing road project from Opebi to Maryland as an example of citizens’ engagement

Also speaking, the Convener of the group, and Chairman of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL), emphasised the importance of adequate and sustainable funding for successful participatory governance.
