‘Late Asagba brain behind 5% allocation to traditional rulers’

Delta North Traditional Rulers’ Forum, yesterday, expressed grief over the passing on of the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi Joseph Chike Edozien, saying that they have been uncomfortable since his death.

The Palace’s Secretary/Ihonor of Asaba, Patrick Ndili, on Tuesday, officially announced the death of the Asagba of Asaba kingdom. The Vice Chairman of the forum, King Uche Irenuma, Obi of Abavo Kingdom, who led an eight-man executive to the Asagba’s Palace to condole with members of the royal family, said that late “Edozien had impacted a lot in our lives. We never expected his death for now, but for somebody that had clocked 100 years, we take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilling life.”
King Irenuma recalled that the Asagba was the brain behind the five per cent allocation to traditional rulers in Nigeria.
According to him, Edozien fought gallantly with late Sani Abacha to ensure that the allocation got across to all traditional rulers in the country.
He said that he was also the architect of equity in Delta State, which stabilised the state politically, advising the bereaved royal family not only to mourn, but also to rejoice because their father had impacted many lives, communities, and even his relationship with the international community was, to say the least, incomparable.
